BIO
Aisha O’Brien is a digital native, musician and writer. She combines her energetic pursuit of information, artistic mind and love of technology to launch successful blogs, create digital artwork, videos and experiment with new ways to tell stories.
Because of her passion for storytelling and natural approach to technology, Ms O’Brien pursued graduate studies at the Reynolds School of Journalism (University of Nevada campus) in Interactive and Environmental Journalism.
At the RSJ, she participated in many groundbreaking events such as helping found the Nevada Interactive Media Summit, and Journalism Week where she interacted and learned from premier journalists and innovators (IDEO, Innocentive).
She also attended conferences such as the Society of News Design Conference (Greenspun Media/Gannett scholarship recipient), Netroots Nation (DFA scholarship recipient), and the Convergence and Society Conference (event coordinator).
As a student, she excelled in the RSJ’s cutting edge coursework in user-centered design and innovation as applied to journalism products, social media marketing, and Flash game development.
Ms O’Brien’s career goals are focused in digital and social media. Ideally, she would like to be working in a capacity that
- puts her in touch with people (client relations, community engagement)
- helps non-profits and small businesses find their voice in the cacophony of online media
- launch successful, fun, and creative campaigns
JOURNALISTIC PHILOSOPHY
I believe that journalism should be an active conversation about the different facets of issues facing a community. The journalists have the long-view of a problem and should help organize these different facets into a comprehensible whole. This is the heart of what I like to “collaborative journalism.” It’s a process that I hope to keep doing and inspire others to try.
